1,171,905. Clamp fastenings; sheet walling and roofing. COOKSON SHEET METAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 21 Nov., 1966 [30 Nov., 1965], No. 50833/65. Headings E1W and E2B. A device for use in fixing sheet material 6, e.g. siding and roofing sheets the sheet material having a rib 8 of which each flank 12 has an internal ledge 18, 20 to provide engagement means for the fixing device, consists of a clamping member 28 having first and second co-operating parts 38, 46 resiliently joined so as to be capable of being moved towards each other in a clamping action, the first part being provided at opposite sides with engagement means to engage the ledges in the flanks of the rib, the second part having means for engaging elsewhere against the sheet material, the two parts when urged towards one another and held in a clamping position serving to secure the fixing device to the rib. As shown the first part has a curved wall with sides (not shown) which are turned towards the second part and which form the engagement means, the curved wall straightening as the two parts of the clamping member are urged together to secure the fixing device to the rib. The second part of the clamping means comprises a wall having joggled sides 52, 54 engageable with the sheet material in the region of the flanks of. the rib, the wall entering a certain distance into the space defined by the rib. The two parts 38, 46 are urged together by a bolt 30 and nut 32 and the sheet material is held to a rail 26 by a clip 36 and nut 34.
