A roll dispenser having an upper spore roll 134, Fig. 2, automatically falling into dispensing position as in Fig. 3 when the lower roll 134 is used up, comprises a vertical trough housing 22, 50 with a lockable top lid 34, the trough sides having vertical grooves 58 with rearwardly and downwardly inclined end portions accommodating the ends 100, 102 and 104, 106, Fig. 8, of a roll holder formed of plastics, parallel mandrels 94, 96, connected at 98 and secured on a metal U-yoke 120, the mandrels each having a large portion 108 and a small portion 112. Over each small portion is a hinged sleeve 114 with finger 116 which moves against spring 128 from the solid to the phantom line position in Fig. 8. The core of each roll mounted over the mandrel and sleeve is circumferentially cut between the large mandrel portion and the sleeve and when the holder and rolls are accomodated in the trough and grooves a lower finger 116 depresses a spring 80 and rests on a stop 88 with the lower roll dispensible and the upper roll under the lid 34, a roll-holder projection 132 extending below a pendulum stop 72. When the lower roll is used, spring 80 acts a finger 116 and, due to the cut roll core, turns sleeve 114 and shifts finger 116 off stop 88 so that the roll holder falls further down slots 58, as in Fig. 3, and presents the top roll for dispensing, a top finger moving under pendulum stop 72. For reservicing the dispenser, the lid is opened so that a hinge finger 76 shifts pendulum stop 72 and the holder is withdrawn for replenishment of the rolls and the holder may be replaced using either end for first entering the trough. A slanting hook 90 locates the holder laterally.
