[Also in Division A1] A rotary sprinkler comprises a housing 2 having a water inlet and a nozzle 8 rotatably mounted to the housing about a vertical axis of rotation, the nozzle being formed with a water outlet through which water exits in the form of a jet 16, a shaft 18 fixed to the nozzle at an angle inclined to the horizontal and oblique to the direction of the jet and a rotor 20 rotatably mounted on the shaft, said rotor comprising a complete circle of inner closely spaced vanes 24 and a group of outer' widely spaced vanes 22 separate and distinct from the inner vanes, said rotor being floatingly mounted on the shaft such that during starting conditions the jet impinges only on the inner vanes to rotate the rotor and move it outwardly along the shaft until the jet impinges on the outer vanes only during normal running. A rod 26 passing through the shaft and bearing a cam follower 36 and spring 30 held between nut 28 and the rotor, may co-operate with a cam on the housing to provide a required water distribution pattern.
