Abstract
1,170,478. Fishing reel with brake. HARDY BROS (ALNWICK) Ltd. 18 Oct., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 43661/67. Heading A1A. A fishing reel having a drum check device includes a drum member 15 rotatable on a spindle 4 within a body member 1, 3, one member having a fixed coaxial ratchet wheel 17, while the other member carries a pivoted co-operating pawl 6, an endless resilient spring member 11 resisting the movement of the pawl 6, with means being provided for adjusting the tension in the spring. As shown, the body 1, 3 carries the pawl 6 pivoted on a pin 7, the ratchet 17 being provided on the drum; 15. The spring member 11 comprises a resilient ring 11, Fig 5 (not shown), engaging the outer surface of the pawl 6 which is shaped so that resistence to pivoting is greater in the direction X at a particular adjustment. Adjustment of the spring tension is achieved by turning a toothed cam 8 by means of a knob 10, Fig. 2 (not shown), a catch member 14 on the ring 11 thus being variably depressed. The pawl 6 is mounted for easy removal from the pin 7, enabling it to be reversed for left handed or right handed users.
