Abstract

1,170,443. Vehicle warning systems. D. L. HOOPER. 16 Feb., 1967 [18 Feb., 1966; 24 May, 1966], Nos. 7148/66 and 23201/66. Heading G4Q. [Also in Division H1] A vehicle warning system, e.g. for collisions, comprises an inertia switch, Fig. 4, having a contact 14 on a pivoted arm 15 normally located out of engagement with an annular contact 13 by a protrusion 17 engaging a recess 19 (Fig. 6). On a predetermined acceleration or deceleration, parts 17, 19 disengage and contacts 14, 13 make under a spring bias 20. A reset handle 26 is provided. Spring 20 is adjustable by nut 21. The switch (3, Figs. 1-3) is connected in the vehicle warning circuit (Figs. 1-3), so that when the switch closes four lamps, e.g. the turn indicator lamps, flash. A changeover switch 7 is provided for bringing the horn (9) into the warning circuit. Another inertia switch, Fig. 7, has its movable contact 114 slidably engageable with an annular contact 113, current being supplied to contact 114 from lead 130 via housing 112, adjustable cup 123, retainer 122 and arm 115. A modification (Fig. 8) has two flat annular contacts (213, 228) bridged by movable contact (214), current being supplied to the latter from lead (231) via screw (225), annular member (222) and arm (215). Lead (231) connects to a flasher unit (312, Fig. 9) and leads (230, 232) connect from the fixed contacts (213, 228) to the lamps (301a, 301b, Fig. 9). If housing 112, Fig. 7, is insulating, lead 130 connects to cup 123 by screw 125 or to an annular contact around contact 114.
