A lubricating oil composition comprises a major proportion of a lubricating oil and minor proportions of (1) a C 6 -C 12 n-alkylcarboxylic acid, (2) a sulphurized C 6 -C 30 carboxylic acid, and (3) a C 4 -C 18 primary, secondary or tertiary alkyl, cycloalkyl or other cyclic amine. The proportions of the additives may be (1) 0À05-0À5%, (2) 0À01-1%, (3) 0À1-0À5% by wt. In the examples, the base oil is a mineral oil; additive (1) is heptanoic, caprylic, pelargonic and/or capric acid; additive (2) is sulphurized oleic acid or sulphurized linoleic acid. Additive (3) may be hexylamine, cyclohexylamine, dicyclohexylamine, N,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl- 1,3- propane diamine, phenyl-α-naphthylamine, morpholine, piperidine, tri-n-butyl piperidine or N,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl piperazine. Optional additives are C 20 -C 22 alkyl succinic acids and 2,6-di-tbutyl-4-methylphenol.
