Abstract

1,169,644. Making fibre-resin webs. LANDBOUWWERKTUIGEN - EN MACHINEFABRIEK H. VISSERS N.V. 17 Aug., 1967 [30 Aug., 1966], No. 38025/67. Heading B5A. A fibre-resin web, suitable for use in a hot compression moulding process, is formed by casting a resin layer upon a support foil, applying cut glass fibres to the layer, and finally winding the foil, still carrying the fibres and the resin, into a roll under radial pressure. To use the web the roll is unrolled and the supporting foil removed. In the described embodiment a resin layer 9 is transfer coated on to a foil 4 by a roller 5 and the coated foil passed under a chopper mechanism 10, 11 which applies glass fibres to the layer. The fibres are then pressed against the resin by a vertically reciprocating roller 14, and the covered foil finally wound on to a shaft 16, radial pressure being applied by a counterbalanced roll 19.
