Abstract
1,169,369. Immersion heaters. J. JACKSON. 19 June, 1967 [20 June, 1966], No. 27395/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Division H1] An immersion heater comprises a flat nichrome wire 2 wound on a flat mica former 1, the whole being contained in a closed flat copper envelope 4, and the envelope sides being pressed together by evacuation. The wire 2 is separated from the envelope 4 by mica sheets 3 or sintered p.t.f.e. or silicone rubber sheets, wire 2 being moistened with silicone fluid, or beryllia sheets. Envelope 4 may have an external film of p.t.f.e. or a silicone preparation. The wire 2 comprises two windings (6, 7, Figs. 5 and 6) whose leads (9, 10, 11) pass through a sealed tube (5, Fig. 1) containing water-absorbent alumina or silica gel, and are coated with p.t.f.e. Insulating strips are added so that the I-shaped former is built up to a rectangular shape.
