Abstract

1,168,356. Back stays for jib cranes. PRIESTMAN BROS. Ltd. 1 Oct., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 38379/67. Heading B8B. [Also in Division E1] To prevent the jib 4 of a crane being luffed upwards beyond the safe limit, a pair of stays 16 are provided, which are loaded by springs 13 so that as the jib is lowered the slack which develops in the stays is taken up. The length of the stays is adjusted by a screw 20 acting between a pivoted member 7 and the base of the crane. The screw 9 which attaches the member 7 to the base must also be adjusted. A single stay only may be provided mounted centrally of the jib. The spring 13 may be replaced by a counterweight acting on a portion of lever 11 which extends towards the jib.
