Abstract

1,168,352. Motor vehicle body panels. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 21 Feb., 1967 [5 July, 1966], No. 8091/67. Heading B7B. [Also in Division F4] A motor vehicle comprises a rear body panel 12 concealing the tail-lights 20 of the vehicle and made of transparent acrylic plastics 13 the body panel 12 being rendered partially opaque and a desired colour by a coloured woven wire grid embedded in the plastics 13 so that the panel 12 has the same appearance as the metal body panels of the vehicle while transmitting light from the lights 20; alternatively, the grid may comprise parallel elements joined to or embedded in or spaced from the plastics 13, or comprise paint-filled grooves in the plastics 13. The interior surface 30 of the plastics 13 is coated with a glass bead diffusing coating. A red filter 26 is provided. The grid elements occupy 30-50% of the panel area.
