Abstract

1,168,110. Electronic musical instruments. M. TIELAND. 14 Oct., 1967, No. 1792/69. Divided out of 1,168,109. Heading G5J. A single transistor common-emitter amplifier is adapted to be switched on by a key of an electronic musical instrument and is provided with a split resistor in the collector of the transistor, the junction of which is connected to earth through a capacitor 62 whereby the rise and decay times of the note produced by the instrument when the key is actuated are determined. Terminals 53 and 54 provide for inputs from tone sources which are connected through resistors 55 and 56 to the base of the transistor 51. The instrument is provided with a plurality of keys which each switch one of a plurality of such amplifiers. The keys actuate switches 59 to switch each amplifier on and charge up the capacitor 62 through resistor 60 enabling the rise time to be determined by this time constant. When switch 59 is turned off the voltage across capacitor 62 decays through resistor 61 which is selected to give the required decay time for each note. The decay time can be increased using a switch 63 to bring resistor 64 and capacitor 65 into circuit. All the switches 63 in a plurality of similar amplifiers can be mechanically coupled together and operated by a master switch.
