Abstract

1,168,146. Making cutting and creasing dies. HARRIS-INTERTYPE CORP. 27 July, 1967, No. 34507/67. Heading B3A. A method of making co-operating dies for rotary cylinders comprises removing material from first sides of flexible flat plates and balancing the cross-sectional areas of the plates to provide mating die halves having similar elongation characteristics when bent by selectively removing a portion only of the material in the other areas of the plates. Male and female mating dies are made by removing metal by etching or by mechanically or chemically machining a plate to form the die pattern thereon. Lands 45-48, 50-52, 54-56, 60, 61 are creasing lands and fit between pairs of corresponding lands in the female die (13), Fig. 10 (not shown). To compensate for the extra material in the female die the lands 41b, 41d may be increased in width or preferably lands 70 may be provided in the non-functional areas of the die. Alternatively the female die may be etched deeper than the male die.
