Abstract
116,746. Parker, J. W., and Abrahams, E. G. June 15, 1917. Grates; ash-pans; air, supplying.-A suction gas generator which delivers gas directly to the internal-combustion engine of a motor vehicle is formed with a perforated dome-shaped base 28. Heated air from the perforated jacket chamber 17 passes through openings 34 in a conical plug 30 which is attached to a screwed shank 32 adjustable in a threaded bearing 33 so as to vary the size of an air opening 31 between the plug 30 and a conical aperture in the base 28. Water passes from a pipe 39 through an opening 37, and a central aperture in the shank 32, so as to assist in the formation of gas. To enable ashes to be cleared from the ashpan 15, a valve 50 which normally prevents access to the pan under the action of a spring 54, may be held open by a pin 55 which is locked in a bayonet slot when the pan is to be cleared. An annular hit-and-miss valve surrounding the domed base may be arranged to discharge all the ashes into the pan 15. Ashes above the base may be removed through an opening closed by the doors 26.
