Abstract

1,167,321. Stabilized, particulate. pesticidal composition. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 22 Feb., 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 7808/66. Heading A5E. [Also in Division C1] A stabilized pesticidal composition comprises a mixture of two or more parliculate chemicals which are normally reactive in the presence of water, the particles of at least one of the chemicals having thereon a coating of an inert powder which has been rendered hydrophobic by contact with an organic or organosilicon material and the powder having a mean particle size less than that of the said chemical. In the example CuSO 4 .5H 2 O crystals are treated with trimethyl-chlorosilane-coated silica, and then mixed with lime. Other reactive chemicals specified are copper sulphate, sodium or potassium dichromate and arsenious oxide; alternative inert powders are titanium dioxide, kaolin and chalk; and hydrophobic coatings also may be obtained using methyl trichlorosilane, propyl trichlorosilane, methyl triethoxysilane, aliphatic amines and fatty acid salts. The inert hydrophobic powder may be mixed with both reactive chemicals, or preferably first with only one of said chemicals.
