Abstract

1,167,308. Foamed, insulating coating. MONSANTO CO. 14 June, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 28444/68. Heading B2K. [Also in Divisions B5, C3 and H1] Wire is coated with an electrical insulating material comprising a rigid thermoplastic polymer composition of density 0.20-0.55 g./c.c, obtained by extruding an expandable thermoplastic composition over the wire at 150- 200‹C and cooling; the expandable composition comprises (1) 30-80% by wt. of a first ethylene polymer of density 0.910-0.935 g./c.c., (2) 10-60% of a second ethylene polymer of density above 0.945, (3) 0.1-10% of a blowing agent and (4) 0.1-5% of at least one metal salt of fatty acids, the metals being divalent or trivalent and the fatty acid moieties containing at least 8C atoms. In example 4 an aluminium conductor was coated.
