[Also in Division G2] Compounds of formula where x is 1 or 2, R 1 if present, represents an alkyl, aryl, alkanyl or aralkyl radical having up to 20 carbon atoms and R<SP>11</SP> represents a bivalent alkylene, arylene, aryl substituted alkylene, alkyl substituted arylene or arylenealkyl having up to 20 carbon atoms which may be interrupted by one or more oxygen or sulphur atoms are prepared by reacting a mercaptan of formula HO.R<SP>11</SP>SH with a compound of formula (CH 2 = CH) x .S.R (2-x) .
