Abstract

1,167,144. Insoles. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 26 Jan., 1967 [28 Oct., 1965], No. 45623/65. Heading A3B. An insole consists of a forepart portion 11 and a heel seat and waist portion 10, the heel seat and waist portion 10 being moulded from thermoplastic material e.g. polyethylene, polystyrene or styrene acrylorictrile and having an embedded metal shank stiffener 14, means to position the insole on a last, means to position a heel H on the heel seat, and a fastener receiving hole 18. The heel seat and waist portion 10 has a reinforcing rib 12, two holes 16 which co-operate with lugs on the last to position the insole on the last and two recesses 18, 20 which co-operate with projections 28, 30 on the heel to position the heel H on the insole 10. The fastener receiving hole passes through the shank stiffener 14 and through the recess 18 and receives a headed fastener e.g. a screw 34 to secure the heel to the insole 10. The insole forepart 11 may be jointed to the heel seat and waist portion 10 by adhesive along a skived lap joint 46, 48 or may be jointed by projections (not shown) on the portion 10 passing through holes in the forepart 11, the projections being softened and flattened so that the forepart 11 is riveted to the portion 10.
