Abstract
1,166,630. Heat sealable coatings. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 30 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 58329/66. Heading B2E. A heat shrinkable sheet with a heat sealing thermoplastic layer on at least one surface is prepared by applying to an undrawn polymer sheet consisting of polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride containing at least 50% by weight of vinyl chloride and at least one comonomer, or a graft copolymer of vinyl chloride and a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, or a mixture of two or more such polymers, a heat-scalable thermoplastic layer from an aqueous dispersion or from a solution in an organic solvent, drying and solidifying the layer by the action of heat and subsequently biaxially drawing the coated sheet. The biaxial drawing may be carried out in a temperature range in which the sheet is in the entropy-elastic state e.g. 80 to 125 Centigrade. The thermoplastic layer may be of an acrylic resin, e.g. a polyacrylate, or a copolymer of an acrylate and a vinyl ether; examples of which are given. The drying and solidifying of the layer may be carried out at a temperature of from 60 to 80C. Examples of comonomers are given. The material may be used for packaging.
