Abstract

1,166,663. Making composite filaments. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. 6 Oct., 1966 [6 Oct., 1965], No. 44738/66. Heading B5B. In a process for preparing a yarn consisting of a plurality of filaments each consisting of two components, two different spinning liquids are sucked through conduits 3 and 4 and subsequently forced through conduits 5 and 6 into another conduit 7 by feed pumps 1 and 2, conduit 7 containing a filling piece 16 within which is a mixing device (not shown) which doubles and redoubles the number of layers of the two liquids, and forms a main stream consisting of successive layers of the two spinning solutions with a flat boundary surface between each layer, the main stream being guided towards spinning orifices contained in a spinneret plate 10, said orifices being arranged in rows with each row in line with a boundary surface between the two liquid layers, said boundary surfaces extending to within the orifices, and extruding the filaments which are subsequently solidified. Preferably one of the components consists of a copolymer and the other of a homopolymer based on one of the monomers of which the copolymer is composed. Nylon 6 is mentioned as a suitable homopolymer and the copolymer may consist of nylon 6 and nylon 66.
