Abstract
1,166,401. Soldering. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966], No. 11657/67. Heading B3R. [Also in Division H1] A rod-shaped electrode comprises a thoriated tungsten part 1, i.e. containing 0À5 to 5% by weight thorium, joined endto-end to a pure tungsten part 3 solely by means of a soldered joint 2 using a solder consisting of molybdenum or of a molybdenum alloy. The soldered joint is made by placing a molybdenum disc between the adjacent ends of parts 1 and 3 and heating this assembly to above the melting point of molybdenum in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, e.g. argon or a nitrogen hydrogen mixture containing 1-5% by volume of hydrogen, and applying a slight compression between the ends of parts 1 and 3.
