Abstract

1,165,919. Web slitting and rewind apparatus. CHAMBON Ltd. 11 Dec., 1967 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 55185/66. Heading B8R. In a web-slitting and rewind machine, the supply-roll 1 and the take-up mandrel 21 are held in tangential engagement with a suction or plain surfaced roller 4 provided with co-operating cutter discs 26. Drive means is provided to rotate either the take-up mandrel 21 or the roller 4. In Fig. 1, the supply-roll support comprises a pair of spaced-apart arms 7, pivoted at 8 and acted upon by a pair of hydraulic jacks 13. The supply roll 1 is braked by a pair of shoes 39 acting on a drum 34 connected to roll shaft 11. The braking force is controlled by a linkage system including a telescopic, spring-loaded link 44, which is adjusted according to the position of the web-roll support (i.e. the web-roll diameter) by a link 50 pivotally mounted to a bracket 51 on the machine frame 1. The take-up mandrel support comprises a pair of spacedapart arms 17 pivoted at 63, and acted upon by a pair of hydraulic cylinders (not illustrated). The drive means includes a variable-speed transmission (52, Fig. 2), the control mechanism of which comprises a cam plate 73 mounted on the take-up mandrel support, and a cam follower roller (74) pivotally mounted on the machine frame 1 and operatively connected to a control lever (53) of the transmission (52) via linkages. As an alternative, the supply roll and the take-up mandrel may be mounted for linear movement instead of arcuate movement.
