Abstract

1,165,084. Fuels. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 25 April, 1967 [26 July, 1966], No. 19033/67. Heading C5G. [Also in Division C3] A fuel composition comprises a major proportion by weight of a petroleum distillate fuel and a minor proportion by weight of an oil soluble copolymer having a molecular weight of between 1,000 and 3,500, the copolymer being a copolymer of ethylene with from 1 to 50% by weight based on the total weight of copolymer of a vinyl ester of a neo-acid having the formula wherein R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> represent a C 1 -C 10 alkyl group. Preferably the petroleum fuel boils between 250‹ and 800‹ F. The copolymer is preferably present in a concentration between 0À002% and 0À2% by weight of the total composition. In the examples copolymers of ethylene and vinyl neo-decanoate, vinyl neohexanoate and vinyl neo-octadecanoate are used.
