Abstract
1,164,553. Fraction collector. W. POLLMAN. 25 Aug., 1967, No. 39194/67. Heading B1X. A fraction collector which may be used with chromatography columns comprises a plurality of sample vessels 13 arranged in staggered array in a stationary holder (2) which may be in insulated tub (1), carriage 4 supporting drip-directing means 49 for directing liquid fed through flexible hose 48 and connector stub 46 into each of vessels 13 in turn, driving device 5 to effect continuous movement of carriage 4 over vessels 13, and distributor plate 3 having trough-shaped depressions 23, (23a, 23<SP>1</SP>a &c in Fig. 2), each depression 23 communicating with one of vessels 13. Means 49 may be a flexible flap which transfers suddenly from one trough to the next as the carriage moves. On completion of the run, distributor plate 3 can be lifted off and placed on a filter paper sheet, and the paper then treated with a colourforming reagent which reacts with a constituent of the liquid drops which had adhered to the underside of the plate.
