Abstract
1,164,410. Expansion joints. THIOKOL CHEMICAL CORP. 1 May, 1967 [17 May, 1966; 23 March, 1967], No, 60044/68. Divided out of 1163356. Heading E1G. In a process for forming a sealant joint adhesively bonded to an hydraulic cementitious structure, a strip of cured polysulphide polymer composition is placed in contact with a freshly poured hydraulic cementitious structure and the cementitious structure is allowed to set. The sealant may be applied to the space between two bodies, one or both being unset hydraulic cementitious material, or a bead of sealant may be placed in the hydraulic cementitious material so that a point or line of weakness is caused along which a crack, if any, will occur when the material sets, the crack then being sealed by sealant already present. The material may be mortar, gypsum plaster, Portland cement, magnesium aluminate cement, magnesium oxychloride cement, concretes made from such cements, terrazzo or plaster of Paris, and the process may be used to apply these materials to set concrete or other cementitious materials, wood brick, metals, plastics, glass, tile and stone. In Example compositions containing polysulphide polymer, coaltar, lead peroxide curing agent, silica thickener and. carbon black filler, are allowed to cure and embedded in unset concrete and the concrete allowed to set.
