Abstract

1,164,312. Stretchers. E. KAUFMANN. 23 Sept., 1966 {23 Sept., 1965], No. 42515/66. Heading A5X. A stretcher of trough-like form has a head part, a foot part, side parts and a base part defining the transporting space, the side parts being detachable. As shown in Fig. 1 (which illustrates the stretcher after removal of one longitudinal side part), the stretcher has two longitudinal beams 1, the end portions of which are bent upwardly to provide upwardly extending side members to support head and foot parts 2 and 3, and the ends of which are connected together by means of cross bars 4, each projecting end of each cross bar being bifurcated to define an attachment means in the form of a fork 5 which presents bores 5 to receive pegs 7. The side parts 8 (Fig. 1) and 9 (Fig. 2) are each reinforced at their upper edge by a tubular section provided with carrying handles 11. Side parts 8, 9 are held in forks 5 by the pegs 7 whilst the lower edges of the side parts fit behind the longitudinal beams and are supported against these beams. Carrying tubes 13 may be introduced into the ends of tubular sections 10. As shown in Fig. 5, an additional stretcher may be constructed by removing the side parts 8, 9 and connecting them .together by means of cross bars 16. In an alternative construction (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown), inflatable cushions (22) are arranged in the stretcher and are secured to the base (20), one at each end of the stretcher. The cushion at one end may be inflated by a greater amount than the cushion at the other end, while each cushion may be divided to enable asymmetrical inflation thereof. Straps may be provided for fastening injured persons in the stretchers.
