Abstract

1,163,112. Laminates. GREENGATE & IRWELL RUBBER CO. Ltd. 8 Aug., 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 34118/65. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B8] A conventional shaped handrail for escalators and the like comprises a plurality of plies of rubberized fabric b<SP>1</SP> reinforced on the underside with a ply of cord fabric b<SP>2</SP>, e.g. rayon, nylon, Terylene (Registered Trade Mark) or glass cord fabric, in turn lined with a further ply of rubberized fabric b<SP>3</SP> to contact the guide rails. The outer ply of rubberized fabric b<SP>1</SP> is impregnated with a nitrile rubber based compound to bond an outer cover b<SP>4</SP> thereto during curing and vulcanization. The outer cover b<SP>4</SP> is a mixture of synthetic polymers, e.g. polyvinyl chloride and nitrile rubber. The ply of rubberized fabric b<SP>3</SP> in contact with the guide rails may be coated with polytetrafluoroethylene to reduce the coefficient of friction.
