Abstract
1,162,404. Pipe joints. J. K. HOARE. 14 Aug., 1968 [15 Aug., 1967], No. 37494/67. Heading F2G. A pipe junction for connecting land drainage pipes comprises a precast concrete channel unit 1 having U -shaped interconnected channels 3, 4a formed therein and a precast concrete cover 2 arranged to close the open tops of the channels. As shown, channel 3 is cut away at one end 7 to constitute a female end to receive a male pipe end and is extended at the other end 8, Fig. 5 (not shown), to constitute a male end. Channel 4a is similarly recessed to constitute a pipe-receiving female end. The cover is provided with locating lugs 10 and 11. In modifications, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), the channels are not recessed or extended and the cover is rebated and grooved at 5 and 6 respectively to locate the cover on the unit. The unit and cover may be reinforced with mild steel wire and whilst T-junctions are shown channel 4 may be arranged at other angles, e.g. at 45 degrees, to the channel 3. Alternatively the unit could be in form of a Y-junction or arranged to connect two or more branches.
