Abstract
1,161,982. Reciprocating pumps and compressors. OLIN MATHIESON Ltd. Nov. 25, 1966 [Nov. 29, 1965; Aug. 11, 1966], Nos. 23971/68 and 23972/68. Headings F1A and F1N. A pump or compressor comprises three chambers A, B, C, chambers B, C having inlet valves 8, 10 and chamber A having an inlet valve 6 which is also the outlet valve of chamber B. The pump chambers deliver to a common outlet 16. The pumping member 2 is actuated by a pneumatic motor piston 55 and the load on the motor is used to control an axial cam 20 which when moved to the left first opens the inlet valve 8 to stop chamber B discharging to the outlet and then opens inlet valve 10 which stops chamber C discharging to the outlet, a final pressure of 60, 000 lbs/sq. in. is mentioned. A valve 37 is operated on movement of the cam 20 to ensure that the motor will make a return (pump suction) stroke. The Specification states that the pump may be driven by an electric motor and the current drawn or the torque reaction may be used to operate the valve control means. It also states that three pumps may be arranged radially around an eccentric with inlets and outlets connected in parallel.
