Abstract

1,161,602. Releasable fastenings. WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd. 10 Nov., 1966 [13 Nov., 1965], No. 48298/65. Heading E2A. A latch mechanism of a vehicle door or a release linkage for such a mechanism has a member which, in the event of a collision. moves, as a result of its inertia, into a position in which it it blocks release movement of the latch mechanism or of the release linkage. The blocking member may take the form of a pendulum 14, Fig. 3, lying in a fore and aft plane of the vehicle. In the event of a collision the pendulum 14 moves against the action of a light tension spring 11 into the broken-line position in which an arm 17 engages in a notch 19 in a lever 9 to block clockwise movement of the latter which would release a pivoted-bolt mechanism, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), and which might otherwise occur due to the inertia of the remote control linkage connected to the lever 9. The pendulum may be replaced by a sleeve 14, Fig. 4, mounted on the remote control link 13 and having a part 27 which, in the event of a collision, embraces an arm 26 of the lever 22 actuated by the inner door handle so as to prevent releasing movement of the linkage. Alternatively, a pendulum may be mounted on the pivot 21 between the link 13 and lever 22 and may engage a fixed projection, when it swings, to prevent releasing movement of the link 13.
