Abstract
1,160,043. Removing dust prior to coating. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 2 May, 1967 [2 May, 1966], No. 20203/67. Heading D1L. In a coating apparatus in which a coating is applied to a continuously moving web 1 by means of a slide hopper or an extrusion hopper, gas is blown at high speed from a slot 4 adjacent the coating device at the approach side of the web in a direction substantially tangential to the web. Dust and air carried by the web are removed by the gas jet. The slot 4 is connected with a compressed gas chamber 5 and the aspirating action of the gas jet maintains a reduced pressure in chamber 6 adjacent the back side of the coating bridge B. A suction chamber 8 may be provided adjacent the outlet of slot 4. The gas is generally air but may be an inert gas, steam, solvent, or gas containing a surface active agent to improve the adhesion of the coating material to the web.
