Abstract

1,159,675. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 1 Aug., 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 34474/65. Heading B7C. [Also in Division B5] A fabricless pneumatic tyre is made entirely (save for bead wires) from a shaped, flexible composition comprising (A) an interpolymer of ethylene with a vinyl alkanoic ester, an alkyl acrylate, an alkyl methacrylate or an unsaturated acid containing olefine in an amount of at least 60% by weight of the interpolymer or blends of such interpolymers with natural or synthetic rubbers; (B) a blend of crystalline olefine homopolymer or copolymer with a natural or synthetic rubber or with a rubbery homopolymer of an alpha-olefine or copolymer of an alpha-olefine; or (C) a plastomeric copolymer of ethylene and an alpha-olefine containing at least 50 mole per cent of ethylene and in which portions of the molecular chain contain blocks of polyethylene or a blend of such a copolymer with a crystalline homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene or alphaolefine containing crystalline material in an amount of up to 40% by weight of the blend. The tyre may be made in one piece by injecting or transferring the composition into a mould; or the composition may be placed in sheet or granular form into a mould to form a half-tyre; or a sheet of the oriented composition may be cut into blanks which are then fitted around a core and consolidated in a mould.
