A method of protecting crops against attack by nematodes comprises treating crops or soil with a composition comprising as active ingredient at least one phosphorylated benzofurazan of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are alkyl or alkoxy; X and Y are O or S with the proviso that when X is O, Y is O; and Z is H, halogen, C 1 to C 4 alkyl or NO 2 The carriers specified include fertilizers and sulphur. A typical compound is 4- diethoxyphosphinothioyloxy - 7 - chlorobenzofurazan.
