Abstract
1,158,033. Ignition systems. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Nov.1, 1967 [Dec. 1, 1966], No.49573/67. Heading F1B. An ignition system comprises circuit means coupling an inductor means 38 with the ignition coil primary winding 26, control means 46 in series with the inductor means and being switchable from conduction to non-conduction, the control means comprising a transistor having its emitter and collector terminals in series with the inductor means, a set of breaker points 52, 54 actuated by the engine and a saturable switching core 44 having primary 56 secondary 58 and tertiary 60 windings thereon, the secondary winding connecting with the base terminal of the transistor and the tertiary winding being in series with the emitter and collector terminals of the transistor. The windings are arranged to turn on the transistor when the breaker points are actuated and to turn off the transistor when the switching core saturates. In a modification the inductor comprises a transformer having its secondary winding connected through a rectifier to the ignition coil primary winding.
