Abstract
1,157,569. Synthetic resin compositions. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 6 Nov., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 50427/67. Headings C3P and C3R. Homogeneous blends comprising 3 to 50 weight per cent of polyamide resin and 97 to 50 weight per cent of polyethylene and a copolymer of ethylene and 0À1 to 8 mole per cent of an α,#- unsaturated carboxylic acid, said copolymer being present in at least a compatibilizing amount, may be prepared by blending the polymers in the melt or in solution. Specified polyamides are polyhexamethylene adipamide, polyhexamethylene sebacamide, polycaprolactam and copolyamides. The ethylene copolymer may be derived from acrylic, methacrylic, maleic or fumaric acid, or a monoalkyl ester or anhydride of a dicarboxylic acid, optionally together with minor proportions of other comonomers, e.g. methyl methacrylate or vinyl acetate. The blends may also comprise stabilizers, e.g. sodium hypophosphite, 1,1-bis (2-methyl-4-hydroxy - 5 -t-butylphenyl) butane, copper stearate, copper acetate and sodium phenyl phosphinate; and other conventional ingredients and may be formed into filaments, fibres, bottles, tubes, films, sheets, laminates and wire coatings which may be oriented by stretching. Examples describe blends of polyethylene and ethylene/ methacrylic acid copolymers with (I) a hexamethylene adipamide/caprolactam copolyamide and sodium hydrogen phosphinate, (II) polycaprolactam and (III and IV) polyhexamethylene adipamide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 998,439.
