Abstract

1,157,462. Firearm. J. K. P. V. C. KAVANAGH. 23 Nov., 1966 [26 Nov., 1965], No. 50296/65. Heading F3C. A firearm comprises a stock 12, a breech block 2 on the stock, a firing mechanism 3, at least one spring loaded firing pin 4 extending through the breech block 2 and a barrel support 5. A barrel assembly 6 consisting of two barrels 23 and a barrel block 24 is slidably mounted on the barrel support 5, the barrel block 24 being provided with an extension having a slot 31. In the firing positions of the firearm a spring loaded lever operated locking slide 32 rests in the slot 31 to rigidly hold the barrel assembly against the breech block 2. An extractor device 7 adjacent the breech block 2 cooperates with the firing pin 4 to eject a spent cartridge from a cartridge chamber in the barrel assembly. The firing mechanism 3 comprising for each barrel a trigger 39, a sear (Fig. 2, not shown) and a pivoted tumbler 133 is cocked on the forward movement of the barrel assembly during the breaking of the firearm. The cocking device 8 includes for each tumbler a rod 48 articulated to the tumbler 133, a further rod having a head 52 slidable in an element 50 and a cocking bar 56 common to both elements, connected to the elements 50 through lugs 54 and slidably mounted in a lug 57 of the barrel assembly. The cocking device is urged forwardly by the engagement between a lug 58 on the cocking bar 56 and the lug 57 until the sear engages the tumbler 133. On the return movement of the barrel assembly 6 the cocking bar 56 and element 50 are urged towards the rear of the firearm to compress a spring 53 surrounding the further rod. On firing the spring 53 urges the tumbler into contact with the firing pin. The firing pins are housed in a hollow threaded plug 16 which is screwed into the breech block and adjustably locked therein as by a grub screw. The firearm is provided with a. safety catch which co-operates with the sear and the spring loaded lever of the locking slide (Fig. 2, not shown).
