Abstract

1,157,112. Manufacturing bag handles. J. BAGNALL. 10 July, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 18226/66. Heading A4G. In a bag handle forming machine, paper strip 311, Fig. 4, is glued on one face at 51 and fed over roller 40 to which a rope 42 is fed through an eye in an extendable portion 54 at one end of a lever 52 reciprocated by cam 57 so as to overlie the glued face of strip 31<SP>1</SP> in a zig-zag form as in Fig. 3. Another paper strip 30<SP>1</SP> is glued at 66 and fed over the rope and first strip beneath roller 68 provided with transverse grooves whereby the strip 30<SP>1</SP> is pressed around the periphery of the rope and adhered to strip 31<SP>1</SP>, the roller also having a disc 71 cutting midway and longitudinally through the top strip 30<SP>1</SP> and across the rope as shown in Fig. 3. The combined strips and rope is fed between rollers 72, 73 where cutters 74 form cuts 43, Fig. 3, half-way across the strip on alternate sides opposite from the rope loops 25<SP>1</SP>. The strip is then glued on both sides via rollers 76, 77, 79 and fully cut through longitudinally by cutter 76<SP>1</SP> after which the separated handles are held by hooks 81 on conveyer belt 82 preparatory for attachment to bags. Roller 62 on lever 52 follows hinged cams 61, 61<SP>1</SP>, (Fig. 7 not shown) whereby the rope is guided around loop forming pegs 41 on roller 40.
