[Also in Division F2] A wrench comprises a housing formed by two plates 1, Fig. 1, a torque reaction lever 8 non- rotatably connected to a cover 5, an internal gear 4 secured to the cover, planet-wheels 3 meshing with the gear and carried by plates 1, and a spindle 14 meshing with the planet-wheels. In operation, a socket is placed on the end 15 of a hollow spindle and engaged with a nut, lever 8 is abutted against a fixed part of the wheel or like workpiece, spindle 14 is rotated by a handle 13, and the nut is driven through gearing 16, 3 and 4, and thence through plate 1 and hollow shaft 12. The gearing may be isolated by axially moving shaft 14 and engaging projections and recesses 17, 18. Extension pieces may be mounted on part 6 of cover 5, and on end 15 of shaft 12. The rim 22 of gear 4 is provided with a scale which co-operates with markings on plate 1, so as to indicate the applied torque. In a modification, a ratchet is applied to the end 26 of shaft 14, and the latter can be locked to plate 1 by a pawl device 27, Fig. 5, which can be held in the released position, by a wedge 31. In a further modification, the shaft 14 is locked to plate 1 by either one of the pins (36), (37), Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), which are seated in depressions (34), (35). According to whether the shaft is to be locked in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction of rotation, the relevant pin (36), (37) is retracted by the end (45) or (46) of a cam path formed on a rotatable ring (44). In a still further modification, one of the plates, Figs. 8-10 (not shown), has an extension (52), which is splined to a shaft (58) and a torque indicator pointer (60) is carried by the shaft, and co-operates with graduations (63).
