Abstract
1,154,597. Space-dyed yarn. GEIGY (U.K.) Ltd. 24 Aug., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 38164/66. Heading D1B. Space-dyed yarn is produced by forming coloured stripes on a fabric knitted from a single thread of yarn, fixing the dye and subsequently de-knitting the yarn from the fabric. In Examples nylon fabric is coloured with various acid dyes and Evlan is coloured using direct dyes, the striped fabrics then being de-knitted. The apparatus employed for producing the stripes comprises a trough having more than one compartment into which the separate dyes are introduced each compartment having a hole in its bottom through which the dye passes into the fabric which is passed beneath it. (Fig. la) shows a side view of the apparatus in which the fabric (10) is passed beneath the applicator (11) in the direction of the arrow, (Fig. 1b) shows a top view in which the white fabric is passed beneath the applicator (11) containing the dye solutions in the slots and is coloured in stripes parallel to the direction in which the fabric is moving. Preferably the apparatus comprises see (Fig. 7) a hopper (17) containing dye, a perforated plate (18) e.g. see Fig. 9b and the applicator (11) in contact with fabric (10). The compartments of the hopper run at right angles to the direction of movement of the fabric and the perforated plate controls the supply of dye from the hopper to the applicator trough below.
