Abstract

1,154,006. Water-soluble azo dyestuffs. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Oct., 1966, No. 48484/66. Heading C4P. The invention comprises water-soluble azo dyes, free from SO 3 H or COOH groups, of the formula wherein R 1 represents H or halogen, R 2 represents H 1 halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino; R 3 represents alkyl, cycloalkyl or substituted alkyl, R 4 , R 5 and R 6 each represent alkyl or substituted alkyl, or 2 or 3 of R 4 , R 5 and R 6 together with the N atom form a ring system, X represents alkylene or substituted alkylene, and Z represents an anion. They may be obtained by coupling a diazonium compound of the formula wherein A is a diazonium group, with a coupling component of the formula wherein Y represents a quaternary ammonium group -N<SP>+</SP>R 4 R 5 R 6 associated with an anion Z or is a group convertible by conventional procedures into the said quaternary group. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They are useful for colouring polymeric compounds.
