Abstract

1,153,297. Movable magnet switches. RONALD TRIST CONTROLS Ltd. 7 Sept., 1966 [10 Sept., 1965], No. 38775/65. Heading H1N. A magnetically operated switch has a permanent driving magnet 11 movable vertically in a tube 7 to move a driven permanent magnet 23 coated with polytetrafluoroethylene to opposite ends of a horizontal sealed glass tube 22 the ends of the tube being equally spaced from the path of movement of the driving magnet. In each of its extreme positions the driven magnet 23 influences a magnetic contact set 26 which may comprise a sealed magnetic reed contact unit 21 or a contact spring set without a separate envelope (Fig. 6, not shown). The tube 22 and contacts are mounted in recesses between two porcelain plates 8, (9) having windows (29) through which the contacts can be seen. The plates are mounted by means of a clamping screw 18 on a vertical rod 10, the position of the assembly on the rod may be adjusted and a number of such assemblies can be mounted on the rod 10 to be operated by a single driving magnet 11 movable with a float (not shown) of a liquid container to control pumps, valves or heaters for the container.
