Abstract

1,152,634. Shovel buckets. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. 29 March, 1967 [26 April, 1966], No. 14295/67. Heading E1F. The load-ejecting means of a shovel mounted on the ends of a pair of vertically swing- able arms is a flexible belt 15 that is drawn against a restoring force through the shovel to the front thereof by suitable means as the bucket is swung by a ram-actuated linkage to a dumping position to eject the contents of the bucket. Two preferred embodiments are described. One embodiment has leaf springs 38 having an inherent tendency to assume the shape of the bottom and back of the bucket, the springs 38 being positioned between layers of flexible belting material. The other embodiment has a spring-biassed cable connected to the rear of the belt to provide the required restoring force to the belt.
