Abstract
1,150,346. Drying and separating gases. RIMER MFG. CO. Ltd. 22 Sept., 1966 [18 Oct., 1965], No. 43957/65. Heading B1L. Compressed air or an oxygen-containing gaseous mixture is dried or fractionated by passing it alternately or consecutively at atmospheric temperature to two or more drying or fractionating vessels in such manner as to provide continuous flow through each vessel during drying or fractionation, and subsequently regenerating absorbent material in the vessels in a timed cycle solely by vacuum and without purging by reducing the pressure in the respective vessel below atmospheric. As shown, vessels 1 and 2 are filled with desiccant, and air to be dried, entering at 3, passes into the vessel 1, dried air leaving at 9. Shortly before the end of a drying cycle, vessel 2 is pressurised, and the air is then diverted to pass therethrough. The air in a wet desiccant in vessel 1 is exhausted to atmosphere through valves 6 and 15; a vacuum pump or ejector 16 then causes valve 15 to close, and the moisture vapour is then exhausted and trapped in a separator 17 or passed to atmosphere until the desiccant in vessel 1 is regenerated ready for the next drying cycle.
