Abstract
1,150,282. Fuel cells. ENERGY CONVERSION Ltd. 29 April, 1966 [7 May, 1965], No. 19327/65. Heading H1B To maintain the water content of the electrolyte constant the temperature of the cell is controlled in dependence on the relationship between the moisture content in the oxidant exhaust and inlet. As shown, the mass flow of oxidant is regulated in dependence on the cell current by means of a shunt excited solenoid controlled needle valve 20, 11. The back pressure is sensed in outlet chamber 4 and controls a pressure regulator 14 in the oxidant inlet which thereby maintains the back pressure constant. A thermostat 16 sen ses the oxidant outlet temperature and controls a heater 9 in the inlet to maintain the outlet temperature constant. The moisture content of the inlet oxidant is sensed by a sensor 35 and compared in a comparator 32 with the moisture content of the outlet. A temperature controller 29 responding to the comparator 32 controls the temperature of the cell.
