Abstract

1,149,804. Rotary press. ROTAPRINT A.G. 19 July, 1967 [20 Sept., 1966], No. 33272/67. Heading B6C. A rotary offset printing or duplicating machine, wherein a push-rod is operable to move the offset cylinder into contact with the plate and impression cylinders under the control of a thrust lever which oscillates while the machine operates, and engages the push-rod when the offset cylinder is to become operative, is further provided with spring means to hold the push-rod resiliently out of engagement with the thrust lever when the offset cylinder is in operative position. Fig. 1 illustrates a plate cylinder 1, an impression cylinder 5, and an offset cylinder 3 carried on an eccentric shaft; a latch 16 and detent 17 lock the offset cylinder in operative position. In the absence of a sheet 11 from the feed device 8, sensing finger 10 pivots about a cross-shaft which, through levers 12 and 13, pivots a roller 15 into the path of cam track 15a, which in turn causes shaft 14 to rotate and move latch 16 out of engagement with detent 17; three-armed lever 18 then pivots under spring action, tripping the offset cylinder out of contact (Fig. 3, not shown). The impression cylinder 5 rotates on shaft 25; a cam 23 rotates with shaft 25 under the control of a clutch mechanism; when the offset cylinder. is tripped, lever 20 connected to three-arm lever 18 disengages the clutch 22 through a detent 21. Simultaneously, the push-rod 27, which is attached to an arm of the lever 18, is moved into a "cocked position" where a recess 28 in the rod is engaged by a thrust lever 26 which rides on cam 23. When the paper supply is restored, the operator presses a button attached to the end of a lever 30, which engages the clutch 22 through detent 21; cam 23 now rotates with shaft 25, the thrust lever 26 oscillates, and pushrod 27 rotates three-arm lever 18, causing the offset cylinder to contact the plate and impression cylinders. Equilibrium springs 31, 32 now hold the push-rod 27 out of engagement with the continuously oscillating thrust lever 26, while the latch 16 holds the offset cylinder in operative position.
