Abstract

1,149,538. Turning cigarettes. HAUNI-WERKE KORBER & CO. K.G. 7 July, 1967 [19 Aug., 1966], No. 37179/66. Heading A2C. An apparatus for turning filter cigarettes comprises two grooved drums 5, 30 disposed adjacent to each other and an endless turning conveyer belt 8 provided with holders 12 for cigarettes non-displaceably attached thereto, the conveyer 8 serving as an intermediate conveyer for the two drums 5, 30, one run 9 of the conveyer belt 8 being associated with one drum 5 and the other run 10 being associated with the other drum 30. Double length filter cigarettes are fed from a rolling drum 1 to a cutting drum 2 on which they are bisected by a cutter 3 to form two adjacent rows of cigarettes one row 16 of which is transferred directly to a collecting drum 33 to fill the empty alternate grooves 34 on the drum 33 between cigarettes 14 from the other row that have been transferred thereto via the drum 5, the turning conveyer 8 and the drum 30. The holders 12 are rigidly attached to an endless steel belt 11 by means of slotted cylindrical pins 17 and are transported in a horizontal plane with their cigarette holding grooves 15 facing upwards (Fig. 2 is an underside view), the cigarettes 16 being held in these grooves 15 solely by gravity. The conveyer 8 is driven and guided by two grooved rollers 26, 27. In another embodiment, the holders (212) are themselves directly guided and supported by grooves (223) in guide rollers (221, 222) sited immediately below them at the cigarette transfer points A. In a further embodiment, a pair of guide rollers (322) is attached to the pin (317) of each holder (312), the rollers (322) travelling between stationary guides (323, 324) located at the transfer points A.
