Abstract
1,148,848. Centrifugal pumps. HOTPOINT Ltd. April 17, 1968 [March 29, 1967], No. 14230/67. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump comprises a one-piece casing 1 in which is rotatably mounted an impeller 6 of flexible form, the casing having an opening (conveniently the pump inlet port 2) through which the impeller, which by reason of its flexibility can be reduced in effective size, can be passed on assembly. The impeller is of rubber, mouled on to the pump shaft 5. On assembly, the shaft 5, with the bearing and sealing unit 4 on it, is passed through the inlet port 2 into the casing 1 until the four paddle blades of the impeller 6 contact the inlet port. Each blade is then folded over on to the next blade to reduce the overall diameter of the impeller to allow it to be passed through the inlet port. The bearing and sealing unit 4 is then secured by nuts 7 and spacer 11 against a mounting bracket 8. The impeller returns to its original shape when it has passed beyond the inlet port. The casing may be a polypropylene moulding.
