1,148,716. Cored yarns; drafting apparatus. MACHINENFABRIK RIETER A.G. 5 May, 1966 [7 May, 1965], No. 19866/66. Headings DID and D1W. In spinning core yarn, a roving is laterally reciprocated and introduced into a main drafting-field, the core is laterally reciprocated in simultaneous corresponding relation to the roving, the roving is drafted in the drafted field, and joined to the reciprocated core immediately before passing from the drafting field. The roving is reciprocated upstream of the main drafting field, a feeler is provided upstream of the delivery rolls of the main drafting field to engage the sliver, and the feeler is mounted in fixed relation to means for guiding the core, which means are disposed to guide the core directly into the delivery rolls. In Figs. 1, 2, drafting apparatus has preliminary and main fields, v and h. Sliver 6 passes through a reciprocated bar 4 before entering the preliminary field. A feeler 8 embracing the reciprocating sliver is connected to a bar 9 carrying a guide roller 11 for the core and which is mounted to reciprocate in a plane parallel to that of the drafting field. The roller is adjustable vertically and horizontally on the bar, and conducts the core to meet the sliver at the delivery rollers. In Fig. 11, this arrangement is shown as applied to apparatus in which the upper rolls are in pairs to provide drafting positions on each side of a cap- or weighting-arm e.g. 41. A yoke 43 is attached to the arm, and has, on each side of the arm, a pin 44 to which is pivoted an arm 45 carrying a core-guide 45<SP>1</SP> and a feeler 47. When the arm 41 is raised, the core is engaged by the upper apron and remains on the guide 45<SP>1</SP>. In other forms, (a) (Fig. 3, not shown), the bar 9 is pivotally mounted on the reciprocating sliver bar 4 and the feeler is disposed inside the main drafting field: (b) (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the arm 9 is mounted to reciprocate in a field which is not parallel to the drafting -field and the roller 11 is carried on the arm by a spring which allows the core guide to be pressed inwardly by the core so that its range of movement approximates more nearly to that of the sliver: (c) Fig. 7, not shown, the arm 9 is replaced by a spring (27): (d) (Fig. 9, not shown), the arm 9 is mounted for universal movement (31) and the feeler is an elongated member !(34) of U-section connected to the arm by a rotatably-mounted member: (e) Fig. 10, the arm is replaced, immediately before the delivery rollers, by a stationary bar 38 on which slides a tubular housing connected to the feeler 38 and the core-guide 36.
