Abstract

1,148,689. Olefin polymerization. MITSUBISHI KASEI KOGYO, K.K. 18 May, 1967 [19 May, 1966; 20 March, 1967; 1 April, 1967], No. 23052/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B1] Olefins are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst prepared by reacting Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 and/or SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 with a titanium halide at 300- 700‹ C., hydrolysing the reaction product to remove the halogen and calcining in a hydrogencontaining atmosphere to reduce at least some of the titanium. Suitable polymerization conditions are:-50-250‹ C., 10-200 kg/cm<SP>2</SP> using solvent polymerization techniques. Examples describe the production of isotactic ethylene, propylene and copolymers thereof.
