Abstract
1,148,684. Cooling wire. RÍCHLING ' SCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE G.m.b.H. Dec.20, 1966 [Dec.22, 1965], No.56993/66. Heading C7N. In a method and apparatus for forming hot wire into a coil of cylindrical form, there is introduced into the centre of the coil at the commencement of its formation a tube from which coolant fluid, such as atomized water, is projected radially outwardly on to the coil, the tube being withdrawn axially at a rate equal to that at which the coil increases in length. The amount of coolant discharged may be varied in accordance with the temperature of the wire. In the apparatus illustrated, wire 1 is formed into a coil between pins 2, 3 by rotation of plate 4, and is cooled by discharge of coolant from spray device 6. The latter comprises two annular water nozzles 9 and 10, supplied by inner tube 7, the water being atomized by air conveyed by annular tube 8 and discharged through annular nozzles 11, 12, 15 and 16. The spray is confined to a small zone of the coil by plates 13 and 14.
