Abstract

1,148,372. Chain tensioning. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 22 July, 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 32671/65. Heading B8B. An assembly for tensioning the static haulage chain C of a mining machine, comprises a device 11 for initially applying the tension to the chain, an arrangement 12 for providing a resilient force in opposition to the chain tension and a gate member operable to relieve the tension in device 11. The tensioning device 11 comprises a double sprocket assembly 19, 20 receiving the chain C being driven by a chain 18 which is driven through a pawl ratchet mechanism 15, 16, 17. The device 11 is mounted on a plate 13 fixed to a tube 25 which extends through the resilient arrangement 12. A flange 27 on the tube 25 engages one end of the resilient arrangement comprising annular metal plates 23 alternately arranged with neoprene rings 24 which are compressible by the flange 27 against a fixed plate 22 when the chain C is tensioned. When sufficient tension has been applied to the chain a slotted gate member is slid into a slideway 28 to engage over a horizontal link of the chain C and the ratchet mechanism is reversed to transfer the chain tension from the ratchet mechanism to the plate 13 via the gate member.
